New IT warning
BECTU has re-issued guidance to members about use of BBC computer equipment.
This is in response to the Corporation's continuing hard line on IT abuse, which has led to a number of dismissals.
Members are urged to take note of three simple rules that should keep them out of trouble:
- Never disclose your password to anyone. This includes managers and IT support staff.
- Never leave a PC unattended while logged in. Either log out if leaving your workplace, or lock the screen with Ctrl+Alt+Del. This prevents others getting access to, or using, your account.
- Don't access anything on the internet that is considered inappropriate according to the BBC's guidelines. Act as if your manager is looking over your shoulder all the time. Breaches of this rule are behind most of the dismissals that have occured due to abuse of BBC IT systems.
