Pension ballot union nominees

Unions are backing two nominees for the BBC Pension Scheme staff-elected trustee ballot.

Two of the three seats held by elected staff members on the board of the BBC Pension Scheme are to be re-elected.

BECTU and the NUJ are recommending that members vote for Dan Cooke and Jenny Kimber, both of whom are experienced union representatives with the skills needed to defend the interests of BBC Pension Scheme members.

Elections began on 17 February and end on 5 March 2004.

Dan Cooke

Dan Cooke
"I have been with the BBC for nearly 27 years, most of that time as a Broadcast Engineer.

I am currently a BBC Pension Fund Trustee, having been appointed in 2003. I recently sat, and passed, a Pensions Management Institute examination in Trustee Essentials.

As a BECTU activist, I am committed not only to serving members of the BBC Pension Fund in my capacity as a trustee, but also remain mindful of the essential role that a good retirement pension plays, especially for the lower paid."

Jenny Kimber

Jenny Kimber
"I've been a radio producer in the BBC, for 16 years – at Radio Stoke and now in Cardiff with Radio Wales, and always an active member of BECTU.

I'm 56 and, with a degree in law and economics, I won't be daunted by the small print and columns of figures which face any pensions trustee.

We've seen stock market fluctuations and we're soon to see a new Pensions Bill. But whatever the future holds, I would press for ethical investment and, if elected, will use all my efforts to protect the interests of all members of the BBC Pension Scheme."
