Lay official changes

Changes to the way lay officials are appointed have been agreed.

At a meeting of BECTU's BBC Divisional Committee on 22 November 2001, it was agreed that the way the Division appoints its lay officials would be changed.

From 1 April 2002, the Chair of the Nations and Regions sub divisional committee (SDC) will be appointed automatically as the lay official for the English Regions, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

One of the three other secondments, for Resources Limited and Technology Limited, will be the Chair of the Resources and Technology SDC, (provided that person is employed by Resources Limited).

The other post will be filled by an election. Those branches not falling within Nations and Regions or Resources Limited, will be entitled to vote.
